After oil painting for 37 years, I switched to mixed media and collage. The use of textured and magazine papers, pastels, acrylic paints and found objects offers exponentially broader design possibilities and inspiration.
The pieces in my work magically create rhythms and relationships that take on a life of their own. The tactile techniques to shape and lay down the pieces are spontaneous and endlessly satisfying. Rather than controlling a painting medium, I now interact with my materials and let them lead me. Most often, I address the essence of “places,” usually taken from nature, to break down the familiar and express my artistic vision.
I have studied with Sharon Fishel, Leslie Exton and Thurston Houston through The Corcoran School of Art and Design, and independently with Ann Liu.
