McLean Art Society

Betty has won over 70 awards (over a dozen of them for Best Of Show), for her vibrant watercolors.  As a result of international competitions she has paintings featured in 6 major art books, including 3 books in the SPLASH series.  Articles about her and her paintings have appeared in several major art magazines, including International Artist, and Australian Artist magazines, as well as the cover of our local, Elite magazine.  As a result of an invitation by the editors of International Artist Publications to author and illustrate a book on painting flowers and gardens, her first book, "10 SECRET GARDENS IN WATERCOLOR", was published in 2005. 

Since then she has appeared as a guest lecturer, demonstrator and judge.  Her work is included in several major corporate collections as well as in many noted private collections.  Her love of florals and still lifes flourishes, but has lately been overshadowed by her passion for marine scenes.  When recently asked for advice from aspiring students, she answered "Travel".  Seeing new places and sights, is a great source of stimulation.  Her favorite haunts for her marine scenes are the coast of Maine, Coastal villages of England (mostly Cornwall), and, of course the Chesapeake.
